Carey was once a popular fashion model. She is 5'10" tall, and was well-liked by high-end American fashion designers like Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and others. Her father was the world-renowned geologist, who in 1979 was named Scientist of the Year in 1979 by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Carey is a resident of across the globe because of his work. When she was a student at in the University of Colorado, Carey started modeling for a side. The Ford's model agency in New York noticed her and asked for help. In the year 1980, she emigrated to France where she briefly resided in Paris and Bordeaux but returned in New York in order to pursue an acting career. Her work was showcased on Vogue as well as Glamour covers. Between modeling gigs, she was a full-time student, completing a master's degree in literary studies at New York University. As time passed, she was drawn to acting and studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York. In 1986, she got her first performance, a bit part in Club Paradise, with Robin Williams. She spends her free time ski, white-water rafting windsurfing, and rock climbing.
