Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero is an American singer-actress and former model. She's best known for her performance in Prince's 1984 movie Purple Rain as well as being the lead vocalist of Apollonia 6, a girl group. The actor and singer named Apollonia by Prince and became one of many female artists in the '80s that benefited from her connection with Prince, the Purple One. Patricia Kotero, born 1959 in Santa Monica California began her career as an actress and model. In the late 70s she was a guest on CHiPS. In 1984, the actress was chosen to play the lead woman in the movie Prince's Purple Rain. (During this period, she changed her name.) Then she was replaced by Vanity of the female group Vanity 6 which starred in the movie with Apollonia 6 under their name. Her performance had more impression on the charts when she was Prince's partner on Take Me with You, the duet on the soundtrack. Kotero cut ties with Prince when they had a disagreement throughout the course of her professional career. Apollonia 6 broke up following their disagreement. Kotero then appeared in a handful of minor movies in the 1980s (reportedly refusing the opportunity to appear in the sequel to Purple Rain Under the Cherry Moon) prior to settling for an evening-time part in the film Falcon Crest in 1985-1986. Apollonia could finally launch her debut album in 1988. However, the album didn't leave a lasting impression on music lovers and she soon faded off the music scene. During the following decade, Apollonia continued to perform as an actress (if somewhat unnoticed) as well as a couple of television roles, films and an exercise video. Apollonia released a CD in Spanish and English called Stay with Me in 1997. She later returned to school earned a filmmaking degree, and formed her own production firm, which mainly focuses on television for children. Apollonia has many jobs. She's been model, actress as well as a the talent manager. She is most famous as an actress for her part in the film Purple Rain from 1984.
